Original leather suitcase from the XI. Olympiade Berlin 1936, linked to the Czechoslovak team.
Features two identical official multi-lingual Schenker & Co. participant luggage labels (exclusive forwarder of the Games, today DB Schenker).
One in good condition, the other more worn but matching.
After research (Olympedia, Olympic records, similar Czech examples like Bohumír Šembera), the name most likely belongs to Alfred Lerbletier – rower in men’s coxed four.
On the label you can see the country “Czechoslovakia” (Tschechoslowakei), the name “Alfred” and parts of the surname that match Lerbletier after close comparison.
Plus, the rowers from Czechoslovakia were housed near the regatta course specifically in Köpenick (Polizeischule Köpenick) – which perfectly matches the destination field on the label.
No other Alfred in the Czechoslovak delegation fits this name pattern, sport and accommodation detail.
Additional period stickers (e.g. Bad Weißer Hirsch/Dresden) add authentic travel patina.
Vintage wear typical for 90-year-old travelled item – scuffs, patina, leather cracks, stains, no major damage or repairs.
Great for Olympic/rowing memorabilia or travel collectors.
